Do more with Chef and Microsoft Azure
We’re committed to making Azure work great with the open source tools you know and love, and if you’re using Chef products or open source projects, there’s never been a better time to try Azure. We’ve had a rich history of partnership and collaboration with Chef to deliver automation tools that help you with cloud adoption. Today, at ChefConf, the Chef and Azure teams are excited to announce the inclusion of Chef InSpec, directly in Azure Cloud Shell, as well as the new Chef Developer Hub in Azure Docs.
Inspec in Azure Cloud Shell
In addition to other open source tools like Ansible and Terraform that are already available, today we are announcing the availability of Chef Inspec, pre-installed and ready to use for every Azure user in the Azure Cloud Shell. This makes bringing your Inspec tests to Azure super-simple, in fact it’s the easiest way to try out Inspec – no installation or configuration required.

Chef Developer Hub for Azure
We are launching the new Chef Developer Hub so Azure customers can more easily implement their solutions using Chef open source software. Whether you’re using Chef, Inspec or Habitat, you’ll find five-minute quick starts, tutorials and reference materials to help get you started and successfully build a solution. All of our docs are open source and hosted on GitHub. We look forward to getting your feedback, which you can make directly from within docs or via GitHub.
Habitat support for Azure Kubernetes Service and Azure Container Registry
Earlier this month at Microsoft Build, Chef announced new integrations for Habitat, with our fully managed container registry and Kubernetes services, Azure Container Registry (ACR) and Azure Kubernetes Services (AKS).
With these new integrations you can publish to ACR directly from the Habitat Builder service. This allows you to have a seamless, integrated workflow using Habitat, from pushing code to GitHub, right through to your service being deployed into AKS, complete with integrated monitoring and management.

We’re excited to build on our partnership and take the next steps with Chef to deliver new automation solutions that will benefit Azure and Azure Stack customers, enabling cloud success. If you’re at ChefConf, drop by our booth to chat and see a demo of the new integrations. If you’re not able to join us in person, make sure you check out the new Chef Developer Hub to see how easy it is to bring your Chef solutions to Azure.
